Yet another blog about knitting. And whale sharks. And whale sharks who knit. Fo sho.

Yay, sporadic posting!

I've finished my vest and one of the wrist-deals, and am working on the second one. Only, I haven't worked on it in a few months, so I'm not entirely sure where I'm at. D:

I've also made a doll thing, the pattern of which I didn't write down. It's basically just a bunch of rectangles and triangles, so it shouldn't be much of a problem figuring it out. I'm already working on a second one, though I still need to make one little part to attach to the first. Knitting tiny (4st + 10 rows, man) things isn't fun.

I've got all these balls of yarn, only one of each color (except for all that bulky yarn I got to make that sweater I didn't make), and I have no idea what to do with all of it. I don't want to start a project with one, only to have to get more of it. So, toys, I guess? Stripy things?

Photos pending. No, seriously.

Whoo, I'm almost finished the tank top-dealy. I just need to sew up one side, then do the ribbing about the neck and arm holes.

And it seems like it fits. Whoo'cha!

Also:

I undid the shawl I mentioned before and now I'm making these swanky wrist things. I don't know what else to call them. I'm almost finished the 1st one and I just need to do the fancy crochet bind-off. I did a trial run of it and it worked out, but when I tried it on the actual project, it came out completely different. As in, bad. O_o Time to go to the LYS, man.

And those toe-up short row socks from Knitty, the ones that require math. I started one, only to find that I must've misunderstood the measuring directions and it was going to be too big. So, starting over. Woo-hoo.

JUJU!

Wa-hey, it's been a while. As per usual, I've stared about 25 more projects and finished -2. Yes, -2.

I would be working on that tank-top thing, except I need to get more yarn *doesn't plan ahead*. I've finished the back, though, and am about half of the way done with the front.

Haven't worked on that shawl thing in a while, and it's getting dusty. I'm thinking of just un-doing it, what with the too-small and not-enough-of yarn that I can't get in any stores (on- or off-line). So that means email writing, and I ain't down with that.

What else, what else. You know I've got too much going on when I can't even remember what I'm doing. Uh.

Mom-scarf: A length-wise (like, 600 stitches) white-and-blue scarf that I was supposed to have finished by the start of the vacation... in August. It's got dark blue ribbing, which should hopefully turn into a frilly-type deal, because the main part of the scarf is in a really tight pattern. Meanwhile, I need to find a bind-off method that won't stand out horribly comparred to the cast-on side.

Wavy scarf: That chevron or what-say-you deal from "Scarf Style" with a green/purple/pink rayon yarn. For some reason, all those k2tog's are really painful. But at least it's not p2tog tbl. HORROR.

Wine cozy: Which actully isn't going to be able to fit on a wine bottle. So it's going to be a SODA cozy.

Oh, and I've since written a pattern for and made a stuffed stingray toy. I just need to take some pictures and clean the pattern up. Though it's kind of bad timing, considering I finished it right before my trip to Australia wherein the Crocodile Hunter was killed by a STINGRAY.

That's just bad juju, right there.

Whoo! It's been a while. What have I done? Let's see...

Finished my 1st pair of socks.
Started on my 2nd (1st one's done) in proper sock yarn.
Finished my Nautie.
Started on the (not really) faire isle portion of my tanktop-thing. Still on the back.
Started on another Nautie, coiled this time. Working on its... mouth-parts now.
Shawl/wrap thing from Y2kits. It's pretty nifty looking, but I'm using a kinda sock/sport weight yarn, which I'm pretty sure isn't what was used in the pattern, so who knows how it'll work out. I'm probably going to have to buy more to finish it, but luckily, the border is knit separatly, so if even I can't get the same dye-lot, I should be fine.

Call the police, I think someone's being killed over there.

See Tiger, way down there? Every Summer he gets a lion cut-- that is, everything shaved except for his head, part of his legs, and a bit of his tail.

The thing is, he's getting kind of old to be sedated completely every time. So, one of dad's friends-- the one who took care of Groucho before we did-- offered to shave him for us. Now, if you know Tiger, you know how this turned out. He is the old man who sits on his porch all day, waving a sawed-off shotgun at all the neighbor kids that get too close to his lawn.

So, they got him up on the kitchen counter-- one of them had him in a head lock with a towel over him, while the other shaved and my mom held his back legs.

Long story short? They managed to get 1/5 of his butt done. He looks like hell. Photo pending.

To think Judy Garland would want to leave Oz for you.

What the hell? Kansas, you suck. What did my grandmother ever see in you? *head-desk*

ACLU again fights teen's 17-year jail term

That's just ridiculous, doubly so, in that he'd have only gotten a 15-month sentence were one of them female. I find it funny that they call the law that lets heterosexual teens get away with this the "Romeo and Juliet" law, considering that Romeo and Juliet had the same age difference between them as these two kids. Except, of course, that they were 13 & 16 while in this case it's 15 & 18. Far better for a 13-year old to be having heterosexual sex than a 15-year old to be having gay sex, right? Logic!
I wonder if they took his apparent developmental disabilities into consideration? Probably not.

From this article.

Kansas Judge Henry W. Green Jr. justified his ruling by saying legislators could claim homosexual acts entail health risks. Green also wrote that heterosexual offenses are less objectionable because they could lead to babies being born, and "same-sex relationships do not generally lead to unwanted pregnancies."

Juliet, you whore! You had sex without getting pregnant! But it was possible, so that makes everything okay. Teen pregnancy is totally a good thing, man. I just love his patronizing "same-sex relationships do not generally lead to unwanted pregnancies" line. Oy, no foolin'?

Gee, why don't we just bring back segregation and stop letting women drive while we're at it? Oh, I know! Let's send all menopausal women to the looney bin! Electro-shock therapy is the cure for everything, you know.

This is a 2-year old article, so I don't know if there have been any breakthroughs, but even so, the idea that things like this still happen in this day and age sickens me.

Edit: And on a semi-unrelated note-- Oh my God. What do these poor people have to do with your aversion to human rights? I mean, what kind of sick bastard goes to a military funeral with signs that say "Thank God for Dead Soldiers"? Have they just run out of places to hold their little protests and are now picking out random places? Yeah, God is punishing our troops because America is supposedly tolerant of gays. Yeah, real tolerant, all right.

Stuff! Things! Oh my!

First up, two not!dishcloths that I finished a while ago, but didn't feel like taking a picture of. So I scanned them. And you can tell.

&

And Monsieur Zim! From the book Handknits for Kids. Oh, the things I went through for him. Striping, figuring out how to cast on extra stitches, figuring out P2togtbl (I think it was) after several rows of not doing it right, intarsia, failing said intarsia and having to rip back from the nose to the start to try again. And the seaming! Holy crap, the seaming. I didn't have any "real" stuffing, either, so I just tore up some quilt backing I found in the closet. Which is probably why he's so FAT. And lumpy-- which is more of a Tiger thing than a Zim thing, but what'ev.

The real Zim:

Monsieur Zim - Front Monsieur Zim - Back Monsieur Zim

And with Mr. Tiger
Tiger and Monsieur Zim

Oh, and I'm working on SOCKS. Let's start: I only have #5 dpns, instead of the #4 it calls for, so it's too loose around the cuff but currently fine around the foot, but that's only because I misunderstood the pattern and made the heel flap too short, and then when I went to pick up the stitches, they became like a sorta drop-stitch looking thing because as it turns out, I wasn't picking them up right, but they can sorta be pulled back into the sock and YEAH. Hopefully the second one will go better, but then I'll have mismatched socks.

But then, I am the type of person to go around wearing only one sock, so I guess it'll work out. Meanwhile, the crazy fish will be getting a Christmas stocking this year. Yes, I just said that.

April 27, 2006

I finished the legwarmers! And they're (mostly) the same size! The first one's a bit looser, so I sewed it up a bit more and that kinda helped. I think I'll make some sort of flower to go with them, too.

Also, I started on a sweatervest type thing out'a Vouge. It's gonna take a long time, and I'll need to clear a few pattern-related things up, but I think I can do it. Huzah? It's supposed to have a faire isle yoke, but I A) don't have the yarn for it, and B) haven't done much faire isle, especially since I'd need to shape things while staying in pattern.

So it's unfaire isle. Ho-yeah. *pelvic thrust*

Where the hell is Glyndon!?

You know how a lot of yarn ads in magazines have patterns you can get/purchase from the company? Well, Alchemy yarns had a few that I'm interested in, so I go to their website, and guess what?

You can't buy the pattern from the website.

No, you have to locate this obscure location in which you meet up with a contact AND then you get to give them money. (Okay, not quite.) What is this, a drug deal? Have we hit a time warp and landed back in the 18th century? I mean, if you don't want to have to publish a booklet and send it to people, why not Paypal? You know, I pay you, you send me the address to pattern and password to to access said pattern, all through the magical fairy of the internet?

It's hard enough to find good yarn shops, period, but now you have to find one that sells this brand of yarn AND has the exact pattern you want? Thanks for the inconvenience, buddy.

April 16, 2006

Well now, that's a right kerfuffle.

I will now use the word "kerfuffle" as often as possible.
